Intent for Next Year
Editor-in-Chief
See my Bark application for why I would be a great EIC. Below are a few ideas that I would love to implement next year if I get chosen as an EIC.
Journalism Workshop for Middle Schoolers and Incoming Freshman
One initiative I would love to introduce next year as Editor-in-Chief is hosting a journalism conference or workshop specifically designed for middle school students and incoming freshmen. This would serve as both an outreach and mentorship opportunity, giving younger students a chance to explore the world of student journalism in an engaging, welcoming environment. It would help clarify what we do at the Bark, showcase the creativity and collaboration that go into producing our publication, and hopefully inspire early interest in joining the program.

By starting conversations about journalistic ethics, writing basics, photojournalism, and design in a fun, interactive format, we can cultivate future staffers who are more confident and prepared when they enter high school. It also allows current staff to take on leadership and teaching roles, reinforcing their own skills while building community across grades. I would want this workshop to become a lasting tradition—one that invests in the future of our program while reinforcing our values of accuracy, integrity, and storytelling.

Barkie of the Cycle
On every cycle grade sheet, there is always a reflection question at the end for a shout-out to another peer in the class. I believe that there are so many talented journalists in the program and they deserve to be recognized for all of the hard work that they put in. After every cycle, Erin and the other EIC's should get to choose a Barkie of the Cycle and congratulate a worthy journalists for the time and effort they devoted to the paper that cycle.
